Christmas Parade

We went to the St. John’s annual Christmas parade, which was held downtown. It was minus 3 plus wind-chill with light flurries, unfortunately we didn’t have snow on the ground. We stood close to a busy coffee shop and had lovely hot chocolates, toasted Bagels, etc. Many coffee shops along the route were crowded. There were also many food-stands. We had taken our baby (puppy) along who was very well behaved. We enjoyed the parade very much, there were about 50,000 people scattered along Water and Duckworth streets. Many people, especially children wore Xmas colors, reindeer antlers, Xmas hats, etc. which one can buy this time of year. The parade was very good, with marching bands, lovely floats, clowns, drum majorettes, etc. The best were Greyhound dogs wearing antlers and a coat with the names of Santa’s reindeer. Canada Postmen collected letters for Santa from the kids; there were also trucks collecting non-perishable food items for the food-bank. The kids were all bundled up and loved the different cuddly mascots, which they could hug. Once it started getting dark, the floats and even people in the parade were lit up with lights, and as the streets were lit with Xmas lights it truly looked magical. The parade lasted about 4 hours, with the people well behaved and not crowding.
