Whales
We went on a whale boat trip to Witless bay on a fast catamaran which can take over a hundred passengers. (15 degrees) We left from bay Bulls where we saw our first iceberg. The horizon was full of birds but the cutest were the Puffins, which beat their wings 300-400 times per minute. The water was pitch black. We saw spouts on the horizon and then took off to get closer to the pods of first Minke (25-30 ‘) and then larger Humpbacks. We were surrounded by Humpbacks, which spout 3 M in the air. It was the first time in my life that I was so close to whales, so I was very exited. Unfortunately they didn’t breach, but we saw tails, fins and large blowholes and could hear them blow. The Whales and Puffins eat small fish called Caplin, The sun set on our way back and we saw a lovely moon come up over the water and the first stars appeared. Afterwards we heated up at a bonfire on the beach. The ride was 90 minutes long.
