Blue Rock, Sheep, June 1999

We went for a day hike in Kananaskis, at the “Blue Rock Trail”. We carried our packs with almost full kit, except for tent and overnight food. So as to try-out our packs on a long hike and get used to them. All went well, despite about ½ hour (off the beaten track) stiff climb. We rested for about 2 hours, by a stream in the woods, close to Blue Rock, which is an imposing mountain.

We lay on our mattresses and sleeping bags and had a meal there as well as fresh tea. We saw no wild animals. K’country has “Long drops”, water-pumps, Texas Gates (cattle crossings) and especially in that area, which is close to the Gorge, many “slow moose”. One bull was so upset, when it stood in the road, it growled like a lion at us, for daring to disturb him.

Many horsy people came past, I think they completed the 8k there and 8k back. We probably did about 5k’s
They had their own chuck wagon; we were tempted to ask for a ride back.
