We used a kitchen box during our recent Road-trip and found it worked very well. We leave it outside on the table as it seals well and is filled with our most used non-food items.
We used a Murdoch’s Plastic Ammo Crate, which is water-resistant. The lid contains a rubber gasket that helps keep contents dry, while a brass latch keeps the lid securely shut. The boxes are very popular for camping as they have been molded with stacking ridges for slip-resistant stacking. We keep it on our bed when travelling.

Kitchen Box Contents: Top Left to right: Red Storex Stretch Pencil Box, 5.6 x 13.4 x 2.52 Inches for cutlery, Red Storex Stretch Pencil Box, 5.6 x 13.4 x 2.52 Inches for utensils (see next photo) Paper towel, oven mitt and hand towel, containers for spices, lighters & small stuff and spoon rest.
Bottom Left to right: Marina Braai Salt 400 gm (a South African product, which we use a lot of) Kitchen utensils ( stored in Red Storex Stretch Pencil Box, kitchen utensils (see next photo), fast food trays 10 by 14-Inch (we use these on our laps while eating) and 4 Corelle plates. We also store paper napkins between the plate. We don't have cups in our box, as we have to inside the camper in any case for the milk, teabags, coffee, etc.
