Our camper kitchen box.

We used a kitchen box during our recent Road-trip and found it worked very well. We leave it outside on the table as it seals well and is filled with our most used non-food items.

We used a Murdoch’s Plastic Ammo Crate, which is water-resistant. The lid contains a rubber gasket that helps keep contents dry, while a brass latch keeps the lid securely shut. The boxes are very popular for camping as they have been molded with stacking ridges for slip-resistant stacking. We keep it on our bed when travelling.

Kitchen Box Contents:
Top Left to right: Red Storex Stretch Pencil Box, 5.6 x 13.4 x 2.52 Inches for cutlery, Red Storex Stretch Pencil Box, 5.6 x 13.4 x 2.52 Inches for utensils (see next photo) Paper towel, oven mitt and hand towel, containers for spices, lighters & small stuff and spoon rest.

Bottom Left to right: Marina Braai Salt 400 gm (a South African product, which we use a lot of) Kitchen utensils ( stored in Red Storex Stretch Pencil Box, kitchen utensils (see next photo), fast food trays 10 by 14-Inch (we use these on our laps while eating) and 4 Corelle plates. We also store paper napkins between the plate. We don't have cups in our box, as we have to inside the camper in any case for the milk, teabags, coffee, etc.

We use very few paper plates and cups, as they take up a lot of space in our garbage, which has to be kept inside the camper. We don't always have a fire to burn them, we were fortunate that we did have plates as there was a fire ban in the area.

Most used big stainless steel kitchen utensils with a hole in the handle and attached to a carabiner: Kitchen tongs (held closed with an elastic) large serving spoon, spatula, perforated Serving Spoon and a ladle.

I got this idea from HOW TO ORGANIZE CAMPING GEAR: TIPS FOR PUTTING TOGETHER A CAMPING SUPPLIES BOX

Rosebery Park 2025.

We spent two nights camping at Rosebery Provincial Park in British Columbia, Canada, which is close to New Denver, We had previously set up camp there in 2016 and 2023. Rosebery Provincial Park is located just north of New Denver, on Highway 6. To the west, across Slocan Lake, is the magnificent Valhalla Provincial Park. Tucked along the banks of Wilson Creek, this park has an intimate, forested creek setting that offers secluded camping for overnight travellers or visitors seeking more adventure.” – B.C. Parks.  We thought the campground was great and kept up nicely. A friendly staff member informed us about a bear that was spotted near the playground and gave us safety advice.

We had large, easily accessible parking lot with lovely vegetation in the back and tent pad. We were at site number 24. few pull-through locations were available for larger rigs.

Erik loved exploring at the back of our campsite.

What a wonderful way to begin the day.

We use a homemade windshield and heat reflector for the fire pit, made using diamond tread aluminium sheets and piano hinges. Idea from THE ORIGINAL FIRE REFLECTOR from Big Tent Outdoors. Click here for more information Hubby attached legs to an aluminium heavy-duty Bun Pan to put over the fire, which reflects the heat from above, acts as a heat shield and keeps the rain out of the fire. We also used a portable fire pit made from mild steel, which stands on a tripod, which stands in a Bun Pan.

Camping in bear country

We are quite bear-aware because we boondock a lot. We keep tools, paper plates, paper napkins, etc., in our camper kitchen box, and we typically have bear spray handy. The camper is where Erik and our food are stored. For a simple escape, we always park the truck backwards. The car's alarm system can also be used as a warning.

Wilson Creek was running pretty fast and was very close to some campsites.

Anyone for some white water rafting?

Due to the cold and heavy rain, the campground was rather deserted despite the fact that it was the weekend.

We didn't need our Coghlan's C-Tech Wireless Weather Station to tell us that it was miserable.

Erik was quite cozy on the bed in the camper.

Lodge Logic Combo Cooker. "A Lodge Dutch oven, skillet, lid, and deep skillet all in one! "

The lid of our Lodge Dutch oven is flat with a rim that may be filled with coals. It is supported by a potted plant stand.

The Afrikaans word for a three-legged iron pot that is used to cook over a wood fire on our one-burner propane stove is potjie (pronounced "poy-key"). When it is windy, we utilize an aluminium foil oil splash shield protector for a gas cooktop.

Breakfast is made with eggs and bacon in a disc plough (skottel) over a burner.

In addition to adding grips made from horseshoes to the plough discs, my husband also plugged the central hole by welding it shut.

Potted plant stand.

A large plough disc with horseshoe handles that rest on a potted plant stand serves as the campfire. On a smaller plow disc, chicken wings and shrimp were prepared with  Nandos Peri Peri Sauce. The fire is cooking a hobo packet.
