To escape the heat, I sat in the tree's shade by the creek to read, cooled by the gentle breeze and the relaxing sound of flowing water.

Even for weekdays, the area was busy with campers riding quads, side-by-sides, and scramblers.
We actually welcome the company—knowing we aren't completely on our own in the backcountry gives us extra peace of mind.

It was cold on our last day, so I wrapped Erik in a blanket. Fortunately, there was no fire ban, so we could build a fire to stay warm.
