Anchors aweigh.

After disembarking from the Malaspina Sky on a Saturday morning, we drove from Earls Cove to Langsdale on the Sunshine Coast, of British Columbia, Canada. Boarding the MV Queen of Surrey to Horseshoe Bay. This is the same ferry we took to the Sunshine Coast, from Vancouver. You can see the post here. The 40-minute trip is very scenic, crossing the Howe Sound, one of B.C.’s famous fjords, with views of Bowen and Gambier Islands and the coastal mountains.

Travel Tips for Pet Owners.

PLEASE NOTE: Our return trip was a hot day, Erik indicated that his paws were hot on the deck, but there was a shaded area. "Langdale to Horseshoe Bay isn’t your average ferry route. As you navigate the waters, you’ll be graced with panoramic views, marine wildlife, and a serene environment that sets the tone for the upcoming vacation. It’s no wonder why BC Ferries Langdale Horseshoe Bay is one of the most sought-after routes in the region." - Halfmoon Bay Resort. "Howe Sound's mouth at the Strait of Georgia is situated between West Vancouver and the Sunshine Coast. The sound is triangular, opening to the southwest into the Strait of Georgia, and extends 42 km (26 mi) northeast to its head at Squamish. There are several islands in the sound, three of which are large and mountainous in their own right. The steep-sided mainland shores funnel the breezes as the daily thermals build the wind to 20 knots (37 km/h; 23 mph) or more at the northern end of the sound on a typical summer day. A small outcrop of volcanic rock is located on the eastern shore of Howe Sound called the Watts Point volcanic centre."- Wikipedia

“MV Queen of Surrey is a double-ended C-class roll-on/roll-off ferry in the BC Ferries fleet. The ship was launched in 1980 and entered service in 1981. The ferry normally operates on BC Ferries’ Horseshoe Bay to Langdale route. She is named for the city of Surrey.”- Wikipedia

ÁTL’KA7TSEM / HOWE SOUND Canada’s 19th UNESCO Biosphere Region

"Átl’ḵa7tsem (pronounced At-Kat-sum) is the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh/ Squamish word for paddling up the Sound. First Nation people have prospered in the region since time immemorial." - Biosphere Canada.

We saw hundreds of sailboats nearing Horseshoe Bay.
