Kohan Reflection Garden.

While we were camping at Rosebery Provincial Park, near New Denver, in British Columbia, Canada.  We visited the Kohan Reflection Garden on a lovely sunny day. It was cool and very relaxing to walk through the garden.

"The Kohan Reflection Garden is a beautiful public Japanese-style garden, established in 1989. The serene lakeside grounds honour the Japanese Canadians relocated to the BC Interior in 1942."- New Denver

1990 ENTRANCE GATE

"The Entrance Gate is a place of sanctuary and transition where one leaves the outer world and moves to an inner space of peace and tranquility. It indicates to the visitor that they are entering a special place. This building houses a dedication plaque which gives a brief history of Japanese-Canadians in our area." -Kohan Reflection Garden

ORIGINAL TEAHOUSE

"This structure was built as an outdoor meeting place by the Japanese-Canadian community." - Kohan Reflection Garden

"Japanese style strolling garden designed around the remaining buildings in the Orchard, also has historic and aesthetic value. Elements such as lanterns, a bridge, a Shinto stone and Bacchi basin along with traditional horticultural elements such as planted maples, irises and lily ponds help to educate the public about Japanese Canadian heritage and provide a place for contemplation and cultural events."- Historic Places

"Built to commemorate the Japanese Canadians interned in the area during the Second World War, the garden, a labour of love in the community, has hosted dance, music, theatre, poetry readings, book signings, martial arts, yoga and art classes."- The Nelson Daily.

2018 THE TSURIGANE

"Ceremonial bell is added to the Garden, situated just inside the Entrance Gate." -  Kohan Reflection Garden

"The Garden — from conception and design by Ray Nikkel to the planting of the first tree by Mrs. Chie Kamegaya — has been developed by local fundraising, government grants, employment programs, contributions from countless residents and visitors, and most notably, the generous support of the Village of New Denver, the site proprietors. The Garden is upgraded and sustained through the ceaseless efforts of the SLGS volunteers and residents who continue to nurture and maintain it weekly." - Kohan Garden
