TOKELOSHE: Englishman River Falls-2019

After we left Rathtrevor Beach during our 2019 Vacation, we camped for two nights at Englishman River Falls Provincial Park, on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. We have camped here before you can see the post here. We also visited the falls in 2008.

Our site number was 48. The day-time temperature was 23 degrees Celsius plus humidity.

Englishman River Falls Provincial Park has lovely scenery, friendly camp staff, neat campsites, with firewood for sale, there is no sani-dump or showers. The camp is children and dog friendly.

"Englishman River Falls Provincial Park provides a scenic hike through Errington, with a unique, cascading waterfall and beautiful swimming hole at the lower falls.

This is an easy 3 km or so hike that you can meander along and enjoy the lush greenery and the two waterfalls. The lower waterfalls is best viewed in the spring or winter. When summer comes the river gets lower and in turn that waterfall gets hard to see. Although, when the water levels are low you can walk down to the lower waterfall (the second bridge) and there is a crystal clear pool perfect for swim. The main staple of Englishman River Falls is the main, upper waterfall. It cascades into a deep canyon that looks like a black hole.' - The Outbound.

Erik ran down this log, but he was so fast, he just came out a blur ;-(

“Established in 1940, the 240-acre park was named as the result of an old legend, wherein First Nations people found the skeleton of a white man along the river near the waterfall, thereby giving the falls its name. The area was declared parkland to protect the old growth Douglas Fir forest and the area around the Englishman River and the falls. ” –Vancouver Island beyond Victoria.

The waterfalls have signs warning “No jumping from bridge !”

There were brave people and dogs swimming in the cold water.

Beautiful clear pools.

The pools were a bit too cool for us and Erik found the deep pools too daunting.

One night we heard a hooting owl.

Chicken, baked potatoes, chopped mushrooms, bell peppers, etc. roasted on a 14″x 16″ Camp Chef Flat top griddle. The Griddle is on a Single Burner Cast Iron propane Stove, but we also use it over the fire.
