Irish Loop drive

We did the whole of the Irish Loop drive on another sunny, minus 3 plus wind-chill day. We drove over miles of desolate tundra like landscape, where there are only a few hunting shacks and no trees, because it is where the world’s southernmost Caribou are found. We saw a few, but none had antlers and they are small.
There are also few Caribou & Moose Jaw boxes.

We were able to take photos at Ferrieland as the sun was shining (last time it was so misty) and we also walked to the La Manche suspension bridge again, which was difficult as the path is covered with hard snow and ice, but it was worth it as we saw a frozen waterfall of about 100 feet.

La Mancha

We have started exploring the Irish Loop. We wanted to visit La Mancha and Ferrieland. Further south from Witless bay, we drove through Tors Cove, Bauline East, Cape Broyle, St. Michael’s which is incredibly beautiful with little islands and then La Mancha, which is the most beautiful national park I have seen so far in Newfoundland.

We hiked to the La Manche village and Suspension Bridge, which was destroyed in 1966 by high tides. This hike is also part of the E.C.T. We saw wild roses, which smell beautiful and lovely wildflowers, There is a lovely waterfall in the gorge. We saw Whale spouts on the horizon.

We then went onto Ferrieland, which was like a scene out of “Lord of the Rings”, unfortunately too misty to take photographs. They are busy doing archeological diggings there, of the Colony of Avalon. On our way home we drove through Brigus South, where we watched Whale spouts from “The Gut”. Apparently there is also a wreck. “Pigeon Inlet” the TV series was shot on location in Brigus South because of the small quaint-ness the community gave.
