Christmas - 1999

We didn't have a white Xmas, but record above average high temperatures. As high as plus 19! Which was super. Xmas eve we went skating at Bowness Park. A lovely park where they have a miniature train in summer. This was our first time on the river, every few meters they had bonfires burning. It was lovely. Easier than at the rink, as you had lots of space. Driving home I took some photos of the houses decorated for Xmas. This wasn't as easy as I had thought, you need a panoramic view, but I hope for the best.

Xmas day we drove to the Lake Louise-Banff area. Which had very little traffic. We drove about 35 km north of Lake Louise (it is the first time we have been there) to the "Ice-fields". The sun was shining and it was nice and warm, so we frolicked in the hip deep snow, sledded and took some photos of the crystals sparkling on the snow, the frosted trees and two glaciers, one is like a grotto, green inside.

We had planned to eat at the diner in Banff. That's what I asked for Xmas. A meal in a diner. (We ate there before) But, all was closed up. Last year we were caught off guard. Nobody works on Xmas day. Even Mac Donald's was closed! It was an unusual sight to see the always-crowded Banff like a ghost town.
