Banff Weekend, 8,1999

We had a company weekend at Banff. The “Rimrock Hotel” is about 5 min drive out of Banff, halfway up Sulphur mountain. Next to the hot springs and Gondola, which is cable cars going up the mountain.
The hotel is built into the mountain so that the lobby, shops, pool etc are on the 7th floor. With 2 floors above and the rest down. Our room had a lovely view of a forest. At night they have green spotlights which look eery.

We took a scenic drive up Tunnel mountain, from where you can see Sulphur Mountain, the “Rimrock” (I was able to get a postcard of this view. ) and a lovely view of Banff.

We hiked “Johnsohn’s Canyon” which is close to Banff. We hiked about 5km there and back. The walkway is built right next to the river, which is milky white. Apparently because of the lime, from the rocks. Fortunately it was a cool day, as it gets hot in there. There were hundreds of Gophers taking food from your hand and climbing on peolple’s ruck -sacks when they rested. There were many hikers, some even had a “Platypus”: A waterbag, which you put in your pack from which a straw comes to suck from. We saw a family with bells on their feet and wrists, to scare away the Bears. You can buy these bells in the shops.

There was a cave at Johnsohn’s Canyon, in which you entered and came out by the waterfall, where the spray hit you. There were lovely overhangs, rock formations and more waterfalls.

You can imagine how lovely the hot spring were after this.
